Thanks for that one , Bags . I model mid 50's , so the 55 Chevy 2 door post and the V-dubya are naturals . Lets see , if I paint the Chevy orange , add chrome reversed rims , raise the back and drop the front , I'll have a replica of my first car! Cool !

      John,

After visiting 3 Wal*Mart's I have as yet to find a '55 Chevy Bel-Air and a VW Van. I think my collection now totals 14 vehicles in all. With each new Wal*Mart I visit, I find something different. Thanks again for the lead.

Allen, thanks for the tip on visiting different Walmarts. I found my VW bug at the second one and a VW van at the third. I think that puts my total at 16 but there are duplicates that I want to rust up for the junk pile. It's kind of fun hunting out different ones and getting such a good deal. That's probably enough for now

Well, this is not about a vehicle from Walmart, but it is a vehicle from a national chain - Eckerd Pharmacy.

Bonnie (AKA 'Eagle Eye') came home from a local Eckerd with a vehicle on a keychain that she thought "looked about the right size". It was a '49 Ford Woody station wagon. When I took the sticker off the botton, it said 1:82 (made by Kinsmart). Pretty close to scale. Anyway, here are some pictures.

There was no problem getting the car off of the key ring, and the hole where the ring was will be made into a gas cap.

There is a Phillips screw in the front of the underframe, so I should be able to get it apart to add some passengers. Oh, it has a friction motor in it, too.

I will make the above-mentioned changes, dull it down a bit, and add it to the layout.

Bonnie said that there were several colors of this car, plus some more modern cars and several pick-up trucks as well. It think it cost $2.99.

          She's a keeper -- Bonnie that is!

That Kinsmart Ford woody is a bit large. They were offered as a pull back toy by IHC also.

With regard to the Malibu models, there is now a line of highway tractors available for $3.97 each at Walmart. These are not near the quality of the automobile line but can be made into something decent with a little work. Sorry I didn't take a before picture now but with some different wheels, mirrors and a paint job this is what I came up with. The trailer is from A-line. Both done in Sunbury Trucking colors.

I have been picking up the WalMart cars for since this thread was started. However, the last several months, my local WalMart hasn't carried the individual cars, but rather a 5 (maybe 6) pack of the cars. The down side is that they are a mixed lot - not divided by year. They are still very inexpensive, perhaps about $7 for the pack.

                    Mike,

It is the same at my Walmart.

They are only selling the package with a selection of cars in each package.

The problem is as you state there is no rhyme or reason as to the way they are packaged.

I also saw the trucks and while most are too modern for my era there is one that I saw that could work.

Also the price is definitely right.

Well folks, we have to deal with the bitter fact that, unlike a hobby shop, their major market is probably about 9 years old and just wants as many cars as they can get for as little cost as possible. I think it's probably just a happy accident that Walmart has them at all. They must have almost been able to steal them to sell for these prices. Checking current prices on Wiking and Trident vehicles makes me feel okay about Walmart's multi-packs.

Anybody out there ambitious enough to set up an area where could swap or sell unwanted vehicles amongst ourselves? I know that I've got more yellow and white '55 Chevies than any sane man needs.....[:-propeller]

Ken, we already have a forum area set up for this. Check the Railroad-Line Swap Meet:

Our WM is getting out all the Christmas ornaments. Check your local WM for almost O scale JD tractors, '55 ford pickups, t-birds, and corvettes. With a little work, these ornaments can be used on the layout. They also have neat tractor and vehicle ornaments in almost N scale too!

Went back to Walmart and found a whole shelf dedicated to smaller vehicles.

Most are larger that HO scale but I did find these new vans from Planet Toys.

                            They had 2 different vans, a 1974 Ford E-100 Van and a 1975 Dodge D 100 van.

While the paint schemes are not that great I did come home with 2 Fords and 1 Dodge and they are under $2.00 each I believe.

Also the plastic tops which are similar to the ones from Malibu are great for storing detail parts.

You can read the 1:87 in the upper right of the box.

Thanks, John, for alerting me...looks like I need to make a trip to Wal Mart (once the snow melts off). I'm always on the lookout for more vehicles. Even though I model 1972, I could probably fudge a little and use these vans. With a new paint job.....

Nice looking vans John. Are you going to have a AlaskaStock section on your RR?
