  • Atlas HO roundhouse question

    Greetings --

I'm currently working on a bash of the Atlas N scale turntable to use on a "Scale 55" micro layout ...

Which has me thinking about using the Atlas HO turntable on another layout ... and wondering if the Atlas HO roundhouse might be "bashable" to suit that idea.

QUESTION: For anyone who might have the Atlas HO roundhouse handy ... what is the WIDTH of the door openings? And, if the doors are left in place, but open ... what is the CLEARANCE (width) between the doors?

Basically, I'm wondering if I can use the floors and roof to insure the proper stall spacing, then build up the sides, doors, etc to use the roundhouse in a larger scale like On30.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to make the measurements! [:-angel]
    Cheers,

    Dallas

http://www.atlasrr.com/Trackmisc/horoundhouse.htm gives basic dimensions -- suspect door openings clear NMRA HO clearance gauge.

It looks like it might work if the front "door" section was removed and the doors were moved back to the taller structure.

Thanks both! Looking at the pix on the link that Bill provided immediately gave me the same idea that Harold kindly posted ... (which certainly could have escaped my attention, so I'm glad you mentioned it!)

And, of course, I'll still be interested in actual measurements if available!
        Cheers,

In Scale55 I think it is possible to use HO brick structures.

The bricks measure 2x5 in Scale55 while real bricks are 3x8.

Okay (and thanks) ... but this particular idea relates to a project in a larger scale, and I'm most interested in knowing if the "structure" (innards) of the HO Roundhouse can be rebuilt to suit.

So, still looking for those door clearance dimensions ...
            Cheers,

Hi Dallas, The HO Atlas Roundhouse door clearance is 1-15/16" wide with doors off. And 2-1/2" high, with and without the doors on. With the doors on and opened the clearance is 1-3/4" I also posted a copy of the assembly diogram. Hope this helps.

                Thank you!id="size4">

Hi Louis -- Yup, that's a "big" thank you ... exactly what I wanted to know and the diagram is extremely helpful too.

Gotta finish up the current project before jumping ahead, but looks like that roundhouse will be the thing for the next turntable project.

                Thanks again, pardner! [:-cowboy]
