  • Missing or Dormant Websites

    All,

Amongst my favourite websites are Cliff Powers' Magnolia Route and Stephen Priest's Emporia Sub. Cliff hasn't updated his site since mid-summer and I haven't been able to access EmporiaSub.com for several months getting back either Error 404 or "domain name for sale" replies. Does anyone know the status of these sites?. I certainly hope each and their families are well and that there are no "critical issues" that are preventing them from working on their layouts and/or websites. Any comments from those who know would be appreciated.

    Thanks and Cheers

    Carl

I checked the Wayback Machine and the "EmporiaSub.com" website was last updated in June 0f 2008. Looks like it's inactive now.

Hey Carl. Thanks for your kind words and interest in my website. I stand guilty as charged. My last update to the photo gallery was July 22. There has been some minor progress since then, but very little. Lots of other projects have monopolized my modeling time since the new school year began in August (I am a teacher). I spent about a month of weekends doing an extreme makeover on our children's two bedrooms, including new hardwood floors. Then in October, we hosted our annual home Halloween Party which involved 158 guests and three weeks of preparation. For the last two weeks, I have been putting a new metal roof on the train building.

During that time, I did manage to work on my New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. I have removed each of the four platform sheds and replaced the original grain of wheat bulbs with 3mm LEDs. I like the effect much, much better. In truth, the bulbs were giving me some troubles already, so I replaced them before continuing with the final two sheds. Work on these last two sheds will begin this weekend and will hopefully be completed by the end of my two week Christmas break.

I'll be updating both my thread here on RR-Line and my MA&G website. My website stays a post behind the construction thread here. I also only publish about half of the photos on my website that I do here. Look for both of these updates around the first of the year. Thanks again for your concern and interest!!

You may be able to get in touch with Stephen Priest via the Scale Rails Editor's email address (Stephen is the editor).

        Hope this helps.
Look out for #1, but don\'t step in #2!

          Andy,
Thanks for the heads up about Stephen being the editor of scale rails. I'll try contacting him that way.

          Thanks and Cheers

            Cliff,

Thanks for the update. It's good to hear that it is just "life" getting in the way of your model railroading and webmastering and not a serious problem or emergency. I found your thread on the NOUPT here and my gosh you have done a lot of very "high impact/visibility" work in an apparently quite limited time since you last updated your site. As ever though you are doing absolutley exemplary work of a wonderful prototype.

            Thanks and Cheers
            Carl

Its funny how when you start your website its full guns a blazing, your update it regularly, you build a "fan base" and it grows. Then as time moves on, you get busy with life again, fewer and fewer things happen to the railroad to merit your thought of update worthy news.

Finally the emails pile up asking and you make an update, show off a few of the new things and then slip back away again. It happens over and over again.

Sometimes you just get caught up in other things.

I'm guilty as charged for the above too. I generally try and answer the questions though when I get the in the email. Also, some of us went to a email list. I did this after another person mentioned it to me. I've got pictures on my site that aren't viewable in the site itself, they are link in via the mass group email. Others have gone to blog type setups to get word out and I've heard a few guys talking about doing Facebook applications.
