Too bad the kit is toast! If he has that much money maybe he should hire you to build the next kit and then it will be done right.

Hi guys. I would like to give a bit of an opinion on this subject. Quite a few years ago, I received the super sawmill kit for Christmas from my parents. This was my first attempt at a FSM kit. I didn't screw it up, however looking back at it and what I have experienced at CSS shows and this forum and videos, I have a much better idea of how to do things in this great hobby. Having said that, I don't think that it is fair for you to judge this person for attempting a FSM kit a wrecking it. We all have to start somewhere. If he can afford to buy kits and not do a very good job on them, well at least the kit isn't sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Maybe his next try might turn out a bit better. I feel your frustration but I think your going down the wrong track on this situation. Please don't think that I am against you in this, but turn a negative thing ( you losing out to a higher bid ) into a positive situation ( try again ) and post some pictures of your work here on the forum. Have a great night.......

          Brad

I agree completely, the guy bought a kit that he wanted and made an attempt to actually build it.

I've never built an FSM kit and/or read the instructions but I have read many MANY times on this forum that Georges kits were the first craftsman kits that people built and the instructions were an education to them on modeling techniques and have stood them well over many years.

Lots of people have money and no talent just as lots of people have talent and no money.

I had several SWSM kits on my shelf for three years because I was afraid to take them down and make a mess of them.

This guy however had the courage to take an expensive kit off the shelf and try to build it, that is what George produces the kits for. Whether he has money to burn or not is irrelevant, if he builds a contest winning model or makes a mess of it is irrelevant, he wants to build the kit and have fun doing it, isnt that what its all about.

They guy paid you a compliment by asking for your advice as he felt you were a competent modeller and from what you posted above you metaphorically 'slapped his face' just because he out bid you on a kit. What gave you the right to tell him what kits he should or shouldnt model.

An FSM kit is still just a kit, Im sure after all the effort George puts into his kits he would much rather see someone try to build it (even if they dont reach you standards) than it sit on a shelf for 20yrs in a 'collection'.

If your post was looking for 'sympathy' because you missed out on an auction sale then 'I'm sorry' but your attitude and responses to a beginner leave me shaking my head.

            I'll finish with two thoughts......

If you cant afford it and someone else can just deal with it, there is always somebody out there with more more than you, whoever you are, Joe Bloggs or Donald Trump.

If someone sincerely asks you for help and you are in a position to give it to them, then give it.

Karl: BRAVO! When I first read tis topic I thought to myself " This isn't the attitude that has made this forum the best on the internet I've found" I have learned a ton since I first started from the guys here on the forum. My expierence has been that everyone here are very helpful to anyone who needs it. The quality of craftsmen on this forum are second to none. attitude has a lot to do with it. They remember when they started. I have never been put down for lack of expierence or knowledge, If I had I would have gone elsewhere to a friendlier forum. I have no talent or money but I still feel welcome here. For that I really thank everyone. You keep me inspired and hopeful for the futiure. John
