  • Butcher's Way Liquidation at Walthers!

Spotted in another forum, a link to a Walther's sale of the FSM Butcher' Way for $229.00!

    http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/275-11

That is quite a discount over the $280 asking price at release. Must not have sold out?

I noticed that also. Looks like a nice build; but I don't have any industries planned that would support the meat business, I'm wood related

It's hard to believe a FSM kit didn't sell out.

Maybe not quite so surprising, Peter. It's my understanding that several recent FSM kits failed to completely sell out.

Keep in mind that George's kits are no longer the unique item they used to be. He has some pretty stiff competition these days. Likewise, rather than producing individual buildings adaptable to many layout situations, he's been lately producing kits that build entire large scenes that can be more difficult to fit into established layouts (I see more and more FSM kits built as dioramas instead) and this may be why George has decided to return to smaller buildings/kits with his next offerings. Finally, there is the matter of pricing. At $300+ for a box of sticks, they are getting pretty pricey and, outside of selling to the speculators, I think fewer hobbyists today have the skills, as well as the pocketbook, to handle these kits.

            HI All:

As I said earlier George does not sell kits to aftermarket buyers till us guys stop buying them. What would you have him do. The left overs might never sell. Put yourself into his position and you may have a change of heart. He is trying to make a living in a bad economy just like everyone else is. Maybe he will make even less kits next year. I still think that his kits are amongst the best looking and designed ones that are offered on the market along with a few other manufacturers. New manufacturers crop up every month. The latest one is manufacturing a coaling company in Sayre Pa for over $300.00. It's a pretty nice looking kit to. I wonder how it will sell. We will probably never know. So yes compitition is steep but lets see who lasts for over 40 years and is still going.

              Hi All:

You will not find any at Walthers as they are GONE. As in sold out.

Looks like the liquidation worked then? Probably a good thing to get them off the market quickly. I suspect it gave the investment types cause for thought, but that will surely pass. In 3 or 4 years time when the Jewel series are a distant memory, there are sure to be those that are willing to pay over the odds for these kits.

I've never been a kit collector but rather a builder. When I buy a kit, it is always with the intention of building it, whether the moment it shows up at my doorstep or sometime in the future. I was just surprised that a few kits went the route of sales through Walthers but tough times require tough actions. Everyone n the world of sales, needs to work harder and be more creative in moving merchandise when consumers are thinking twice before buying anything. Times will change and when they do, I have no doubts that FSM kits will sell out fast again.

                      Hi Buddy

I knew it would be a sellout.
