One takes a sequence of photos that are exposed for the deepest shadows and almost the brightest portion of the scene. These images are then processed and combined in a HDR (High Dynamic Range) software program. The output of the program is a single image that encompsses the total dynamic range of the scene something that cannot be done if the brightness range of the scene exceeds the dynamic range of the film or image chip. By manipulating the controls in the program one can alter the image and get the results you see...This guy is GOOD!
