Mike, after reading your post I think I am going to be sneaky...... I will have the roof itself removeable leaving the rafters/trusses in place. The sneaky bit is that the rafters/trusses will be removeable also... [^]

Simon, when they are half full of dull razor blades and exacto blades they are heavy enough for some support, I use them for all sorts of things, that one specifically has all the sharp trash in it as I dont like to just put them in the trash can loose.

That will be easy enough Frederic, I did a removeable roof and lighting on the second detailed boat for Shelby's. I'll detail the adapted technique for you whan I get to that point although I probably posted the basics in the Shelby's thread if you cant wait that long....

Yes Rick its all glued together, you know me, slap a big blob of glue on it and shove it together, doesnt matter if its not straight or leaning or 1/8" gaps down the corners as long as its together I just dont care..........

Nothing is glued, just propped up for a photo shoot, I need to make the split-level floor plan next before gluing any walls. The front wall will even then remain unglued so that I have easy access to detail the inside to my hearts (wallets) content.

Karl, thanks for the suggestion. Considering the steady pace my work on the garage has shown recently, I think you should have finished ten dioramas before I eventually resume working on it, so I think I'm simply gonna wait...

Two of the doors unintentionally came apart while soaking the walls, I forgot to pry them out of the wall when the glue had softened enough and subsequently they sat in the water for around three hours.

All of the pieces were easily identified as they are painted and re-assembly was fairly easy while I was waiting for the floorboards to dry.

When I first decided to begin this rebuild I knew there were several major errors that I had wanted to fix which is what caused the original halt to the build. Unfortunately some I could remember and some I could not.

One of the ones I didnt remember was that when rebuilding the walls I wanted the siding to slightly overhang the bottom of the framing to conceal the joint to the mainfloor the walls would 'sit' on. Of course I only remembered this AFTER I had rebuilt the walls, sanded all the siding flush to the framing (except for the front wall) and begun planning out construction of the floor :erm: .

Not really thrilled at the prospect of another 'bath-time' and rebuild I started on the floor while I pondered the problem.

It is at this point in the flooring build that a solution dawned on me, I'll finish this floor and use it for another structure at some point in the future.

For now its back to the bench and planning/drawing/building a new floor.

It sure aint that easy doing these things without an instruction book, plans or photos to copy from........

Now you know that I don't think that. That's why I asked my question when I saw it. Seemed completely out of character.

Well, after rebuilding the floor for a second time I glued the raised section together and then to the back wall, then I set it up for a progress photo to post, then I realised my latest stupid mistake. Lets hope the third time is a charm...... :erm: :erm: :erm:

As the back wall, raised floor and main floor are all glued together I searched for an alternative to rebuilding the section.

I decided to move the staircase from the right inside wall to the left, thus compensating for my error with the raised floor and doorway, its not perfect but it's one of those situations where I decided 'good enough' was good enough.

As mentioned the back wall is glued in place so I did some blending with the chalks and added some dirt/grime.

The left side wall is just propped in place to show how the solution worked out. You will also notice that due to the high interior visibility I had to add all the detailing to the inside of the door to match the outside. The same with the windows.

A closer pic of the windows with the interior framing added and muntins and mullions added to the inside also. Still some clean up to do on the walls and a few fuzzies to remove.

It caused a few problems and setbacks along the way but I feel that I am getting 'back on track' again.

Winging it... and things always seem to have a way of working out. The interior weathering and detailing just show how 'Good enough' doesn't belong in any portion of your narrative.

Yes, Karl, I agree with Peter. The shot of the whole inside shows the excellence of your modelling and the very clever and full of interest arrangement of things.

Thank you Peter and Frederic, I really appreciate your comments.

The electricians showed up earlier and started installing the wiring and switches. After a couple of hours work they decided they had left 'something' back at the office and disapeared leaving the wires hanging where the outlets would go. Luckily I had a couple of wire-nuts the right size in my garage so I installed them, just incase

I am going to need to do 'something' with that right window......it's niggling away at me.

Put two planks just before it, a few details between the planks and the wall (and maybe also before the planks) to draw the viewer's eye away from what you don't want it to see and you're OK. I often do this kind of thing myself.

Karl, the wiring is something I don't I've seen done before. Nice detail. :up:

How about putting a roller shade over the windows? On the other windows leave them rolled up most/all the way. On the one that's bugging you have it pulled down some.

Great ideas, thanks guys. Unfortunately there will be a deliveries/despatch desk/bench infront of these windows so the planking/clutter idea wont fit here, however, there are 2-3 more windows that need 'help' and that will work out great for one of those.

I was originally thinking roller blinds Rick (before the window went wrong), I guess I got so tied up in doing the wiring I completely forgot about it, I'm at the build stage where ideas are flying in and out

. Thanks for pointing that solution out to me, now to make some blinds......

Electrical wiring and outlets ... what a unique idea and very well done. Who would have thought. Next thing you know, the final touch to Gillespie's will be a mailbox with an electric bill!
