Here is a photo to clear things up:
The spacing between the top attach point of the bracket and the 1x2" on the wall is necessary because the walls aren't perfectly straight (ie, perpendicular with the floor) :erm: . I used a few metal washers there to lower the top of the bracket, which effectively makes the layout supporting part of the bracket level.
