Hi Brodie,

I did a search to find out what 'weatherboard' is, it seems that weatherboard is a general term for wood siding, so, do you have a specific type/style that you are wanting to model, or a photo of the prototype you are trying to emulate.

Maybe weatherboard is a specific term in Australia?

There are various sheets available in different styles, but in 'O' it is relatively quick and much better looking (IMO) to build the wall board by board.

I too wondered about weatherboards, had heard the term before but wasn't sure what it was. Did a Google image search and came up with photos, seems to be clapboard type wood siding with fancier profiles. Probably others have better definitions.

Weatherboards to us Brits is the same as clapboards to the Americans . They are either plain sawn timbers , usually ex 1" stock , or featheredged out of 1.25"timber getting two boards out of each piece . I hope that makes sense . The width of the boards can vary from about 4-6" to up to 12". The latter widths are not that common these days . 10" boards are obtainable . The usual width is about 8" . However , as I guess the date of your building would be quite some years ago you can use whatever widths you fancy .

As to where you can obtain weatherboard sheets , I bought some 3/16th x 1/16th x 24" clapboard sidings from Northeastern Scale Lumber Co last year at CSS08. This gives an exposed width of 9" of timber , making them 10" boards . I can't tell you if any of the other companies do anything similar .

They worked out at about $3.76 a sheet .

What I have done on some of my buildings , though it is not my idea , is to use the clapboard siding sheets as a former and glue individual 10"x1" boards to it . This ensures that the lap on each board is the same and they can be weathered and distressed individually to whatever degree you want . Whilst this is certainly a more expensive way the build the walls I do think that the results look better than just the siding alone .

Well, Brodie, we call them clapboards in the states.

My current project, in "O" scale uses the Northeastern sheet clapboard.

Normal spacing is around 4" in 1:1 so I bought the "S" scale, 3/32" spacing.

On my last O scale project I used HO scale 1 x 12's to represent 6" clapbpards:
