    Guys

I know this has been discussed somewhere on this forum. I have searched but cannot find the thread.I am looking info on replacing the springs in the older porters. If someone that knows where it is please post a link to that thread.

This is not helping you but I know several of us have never been able to get our Porters back together and running right once we took it apart to the point of getting to the springs. I have two dead Porters one is mine and one was sent to me by a very experienced modeler. The dead porters do look good all rusted up on the scrap line.

Hope you have better luck than I. If the Porter is not running at all you can send it back to Bachmann and for $25.00 they will fix it or send you a newer model with the more reliable pick ups.

    Good luck.

In March 08 there was a thread called "Are All Porters Created Equal?" A statement was made by one of the members, (The earlier use a plunger/spring arrangement, resistance heat lead to the springs losing tension. The fix was a replacement of the plunger springs with a Kadee coupler spring.) Read here; http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/t...TOPIC_ID=21037

Hope this helps, or is what you were loking for.

6 years on and my eaarly 0-4-0s are still healthily running on their replacement springs.

You just need care in the dis-assembly and re-assembly procedures.

I didn't use Kadee Coupler springs, but Kadee HO Freight Truck springs - they're more robust in use.
