The next area involves the building of a helix.

Below, thanks to Dean and his employer, we are using a Kregid="blue">id="size4"> jig to pre-drill

our helix sections.

Below are three assembled sections. When all the sections have been completed and stacked,

they will be drilled for their respective threaded rods.

The next two pictures reveal the flexibility of using this system.

Meanwhile, da boys started building 'L' girders, . .

And they installed the first two of 'em in the Southwest corner of the new

layout room.

Last Thursday evening, a small band of painters cleared the layout rooms and sprayed

a generous coat of white paint behind the lighting valances.

As you can see in the pictures below, we now have a much greater amount of light being reflected.

Various club members met last Saturday to apply blackid="black"> paint to the corridors between

the lighting valances, and to enjoy the remnants (Polish sausage and chili) of our recent

swapmeet. [:P][:P][:P]

Below, Doug (standing) and Dean (kneeling) arrived early only to be initiated into the ranks

of master painters. See the third and fourth picture below for the initiation!

Below, the required paint was purchased from Portland's Metro Recycling. The white paint

was OK [:-bouncy], but the blackid="black"> paint had the smell of oysters :yuck: , and it did not readily dry. :erm:

From a distance, the initiation didn't appear to be that bad, . .

But a closer inspection revealed spots of considerable size. Once the gun's

fittings had been tightened down, only the original spots remained. [:-smile_green]

Sey Hey! . .It can happen to the most experienced painter, and when it comes

to painting, Dean is a professional, bar none. :up:

Looks like a good turnout for the Saturday work party, that's great. Can't wait to see what this all looks like now with the black ceiling.

Rick,

In the above picture, is the person between Brad and Dan, Mike? I want to make sure I got it right.

And for your information, back in the new layout room along the center of the West wall, I noticed

a foot or so of valance has separated from the ceiling. If you are there tonight, take a look! Other

than that, things look great!

The ceiling looks beautiful!

Yes, that is Mike between Brad and Dan in the Picture. And the areas of separation of the Valance from the ceiling have been noted.

An up-date, last night Dean set up a vintage surveying transit and shot a reference line around the new basement walls so that when the L-girders are installed they are level.

The L-girders have been installed on three of the 4 walls.

An up-date to those that are interested, the benchwork has started, and the helix in the staging area is starting to take shape, another mile stone achieved.

Its beats digging dirt.

This is a amazing transformation from the dark dungeon you guys started with, a tremendous amount of work but the results are fantastic.Having been there I am always interested in your progress and am looking forward to a visit in the future...........Jerry

Hopefully Allen will come on here soon and up-date eveyone with pictures. I haven't been to the Club in over a month because of a knee injury and surgery.

From up-dates that I have received from some of the members, the benchwork is going up in the Staging area, I don't know much more than that.

After a long lull in action, here are the drawings as promised.

The first one shows the layout before our field trip, and the decision to include the bridge

between Lebanon and Brewster:

The second one shows the layout after adding the river and the single-track bridge:

The addition of this single-track bridge should result in a more realistic and challenging operation.
