Good morning everyone. Since the lounge has once again filled up with so many pages I am going to start a new page today at Ricks request. Sure has turned out to be a great place to hang out. This Vol.3 will be locked later this evening. See you all over in the new remodeled lounge..........Jerry
Nice sunny day on the snowy shores of Vincent Lake at a -16 C.
Work continues on the little switchers while I await the arrival of materials for several new projects. I am trying to do my part in keeping the economy flowing ...
Good Morning! Thanks for croissants & beverages! Glad that it's nice over in France...Sry bout the snow in Sweden...It's gloomy here in Noo Yawk, but 46 degrees. I can live with dat! Rain tonight, but very nice weekend!
Troels - I will continue the "search" this weekend when I go back to the lake, I haven't forgotten.
I tried a new auction site last week ( UPbids.com) and won a Gloorcraft O Scale Coaling tower for $49!!! What a find!!! I will save that one for the new modules...
Good morning everyone, there's coffee and croissants on the counter.
Nice mild morning here in western France. It's been a spring weather for almost ten days now, with the exception of a very grey yesterday. Quite enjoyable.
Not a lot to say about model railroads tonight, but I wanted to wish a (more and more) belated birthday to Larry.
I received the two Bachmann GE 44 ton switchers and the BVM KD-01 conversion kit, plus two Berkshire telephone poles which I bought from Fabrice Fayolle. Nice day! The switchers are DCC, which is a nice plus. Has any of you advice to give about the removing of the cabins on these locos or is it a straightforward process?
Have a great evening, all.
Frederic,
It is best to take the shell off the drive and remove the hand rails from the cab. Then turn the shell over. You will see four tabs, one on each corner of the cab. Push the tabs out to release the cab from the shell and you are done.

Thanks for the coffee David and a belated happy birthday Larry.
No modeling for me lately as Ive been busy with other commitments but things should change after this weekend. Have a clinic on scratchbuilding to present on Saturday at our local NMRA chapter and then build a little project after so I'm in the process of drawing plans and getting the materials together for it, should be fun.
Have a great day everyone.
Things are coming together for the latest challenge, I have the donor rail car, one Hawks/Tester San Francisco cable car and another on it's way. Hopefully it will get here before the end of the week so I can get started.
Morning all, Breakfast is up and running - lots of Coffeee and juice available for those with dry mouths and hangovers.
Long, long ag when I were but a nipper, our metal works shops teacher showed us how to solder in some copper wedges into the jaws of crocodile clips to make heat shunts for soldering - I still have the first pair I ever made - they travelled with me throughout my former job as an Comms technician in the Air Force.
Dallas has exceeded himself - parcel sent 19th March arrived on the UK doorstep on the 24th March!
The Athearn 2-8-0 now has new Domes and looks better for it. The Ernie tube train chassis has been chopped and stretched to fit the Dunkirk deck with just a minor mod to the deck and some styrene square strip to hold the front and rear trucks together - which handily acts as further support for the deck. The engine housings fit very neatly over the Bachmann drive.
Main body was built up last night as well ( Yes, Dallas , I did read the bit about painting the insides first. But only after I'd put the cab together! )
If you are talking about those handrails on the 2662Ts that is not a issue, the only soldering I had to do was with the center vertical. In the past most of my problems came from too much heat and tooooooooo big a piece of solder. I have since scaled down to a 30/15w solder pen thingy, and fine (like the fast tracks supplied solder) solder. So in this case low melt solder then things don't fall apart. I also use heat sinks when needed as in small clamps or wet cotton.
Geezer this was a real problem when I worked on N scale stuff as the brass stanchions were really close together on the hand rails.
You need a heat sink to absorb the heat before it gets to the other solder joints. It could be a simple as some wet cotton balls clipped to the hand rails before the next stanchion or some heavy metal objects placed on top of the hand rails between the next solder joint.
Les - is there a simple way, or a jig thats available, to solder handrails and other things? I mean, if you already have one leg soldered, and heat the handrail to solder the other leg so the first one dont fall off? That is
very frustrating, to say the least. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.....
