  • Good morning all,

    Adrian and Geezer great progress.

Well I took a hack saw to the mountains on my micro layout and now I have some space for some buildings. I have to get busy planning what to build.

    • Good evening, everyone.

Geezer, it was exactly that : positive suggestions to help improve the model - at least from my eyes' point of view. I really like what you did.

Nice and fast work on the boxcar, Adrian. This is about 1000 times faster as what I could do.

Larry, I'm sure progress will be steady now on your micro. You've made room to install what you like. It was the best decision.

I'll try to post a pic of the rusted Chevy later in the evening (well, here it's already the morning...).

      Have a nice evening, all.

      • Just dropped in to say hi.

I managed to finish off the construction of my other box car and get the base coat of tusscan on one ready for weathering. I purchased a bunch of details as well as a whale back tender and dobler winch today so ill have more to keep me going when i finish off the box cars.

Maybe just maybe ill get that climax out and finally fix it. But i really don't like pulling it apart although im getting good at it now.

        • Hey Adrian,

Which Whaleback did you get? I would be interested in you feedback. I built and painted one too, I like it, it will be going behind one of my bobbed forneys.

          • Les i belive it is the same as the one you have. The reason i say this is the ones pictured when i bought it appeared to be on your diarama. I was not aware there was another one. Unfortunantly i dont have a loco to put it behind but it will inspire me to purchase something, it just looked like an interesting model so i had to buy it.

            • Adrian,

Yup that was my build for Keith. He has it now, so he may not use it on the diorama shot. I think that sells it. Its a great model, the problem is the trucks and the footsteps collide.

              • Yeah i think it was the diaram that made it for me. It shows the potential for the tender. I will keep in mind the steps when i get round to building it. Did you find a way to resolve the issue?

The thing i can't wait to get is more clutter to add to my locos. Ill be busy again.

                • Started to get a bit of work done this evening.

                  Just floquil Tuscan undercoat.

And after some dulcoat i started with powders then more dulcoat then more powders. I think im starting to get somewhere.

                  • Good morning everybody (well, Adrian, good night...).

There's coffee, French croissants and baguette on the counter, so help yourself.

Adrian, very nice finish on your boxcar.

The oil paint that holds the pastels on the Chevy chassis seems to be almost dry. Maybe this evening some major assembly could be done. Meanwhile, I have weathered the wheels. I have bought a matt glueing varnish last saturday, and it works very well to hold pastels (and sets much faster). While it seems difficult to have the relief oil paint allows, it's excellent on the wheels side or tyres for instance.

I'll post some shots of the wheels and the weathered cabin this afternoon or tonight.

Well, have a great day, everyone.

                    • Well i managed to get a few layers on the roof. It will be interesting to see in natural light in the morning.

And then got distracted by the shay that looked a tad to clean even tho i had weathered it before. I took to it with powders and thought it was all good so i dulcoated it the walked outside into what was left of the natural light. Not to happy with it. Ill have another look, maybe it can be saved or it might end up a total repaint.

Might have to pass on the coffee otherwise i wont sleep but a croissant sounds nice. Have a good day guys, I'm sure it will be one to remember.

                      • Frederic thanks for the coffee and breakfast.

                        It snowed in Charlotte!

Being a Canadian it is no big deal, the ends of the blades of grass can still be seen. But here they are closing down the city, no school for the kids delays on going to work...

I have to go find some boots.

                        • Good Morning All,

Well I get to stay home today..paid as most of government is closed. For me its only 1.5 miles to work. Last night I got the first layer of Alcohol rust work done on the Re-bash-Dunkirk. Today there will be 2 more layers before I let it dry. Since I am in the painting mood, I will paint the 2662T that you all have seen and the new Smokey Bottom Fuel facility that Frederic is featuring on his Airzona thread. That facility is a quick model and great fun for all.

You all stay warm, I am staying inside, warm and doing modeling work.

I assume you are using regular chalks vice the Bragadon chalks? I use Bragadon and they don't need to be fixed.

                            • God morning all ... thanks for the coffee ..

Adrian: keep the pictures and "how to" coming on the box car. I hope to do some priming this afternoon, "oxide red".

Got to run ... literally ...

                              Have a great day ...

                              • Hey guys

Throw a tree on the fire and send me a box of Hot krispy kreme doughnuts. It is 28degrees and heavy snow here just south of Raleigh NC. We have 4inches on the ground and still snowing heavy 5 to 6 inches now expected. Biggest snow in 5 years.I think I will work on my Logging caboose.Oops the kids want to go out play in the snow.
