  • On30 Lounge__Vol.3

Hey all, we have topped the 200th post so here goes the 3rd volume of the lounge. I am thrilled it has turned out so positive and we have had the chance to converse with so many new friends and great modelers. So here we go for another 100 and many more after that. The wood stove is cranking and the coffee is on. Jerry

    Good evening all

Happy to discover the third lounge. It looks as nice and cosy than the two first ones. And it's a good relief after the cold days we're having here in France. Nothing compared to Tom's usual winter temperatures, but very cold by French standards.

I've been playing with styrene today to make a new door for my Chevy. It doesn't look too bad but it's not completely done yet. Pictures follow.

    Have a great evening, everyone.

Just a quick question and i hope for a quick response. What tie length are people using for hand laying track. Also what dimensions.

David, thanks for the liks to the drawings. I have found myself browsing for hours.

        Good Evening All,

Where is everybody, when is the moving van showing up, no furniture, no video games, no trains to run, darn. Well I guess I am gonna have to cut some limbs down, saw up some wood to make some bench work. So can we use that old cable spool out back for a table?

Wow this is really good, I think we are the most active bunch, I don't see much out of the others.

Les....now where did I put my flashlight.

          Good evening all,

Here's to the next 100, or 300. I depend on this for my daily fix. Such a great bunch. Les, I took your flashlight.. my RR had an all night operation to try and beat the heavy storms coming up to clog the mountain passes.

                Try 6' long On3 ties. SR&RL 2' ordered 5 x 5 x 5. Ties for 3' lines varied but a 8" wide by 6' to 6'6" long tie was common.

OK, this lounge is too clean and too neat, but I bet it won't take long to get that lived in look.

Les, I agree with you about us being the most active group, I bet there isn't another thread that is 200+ pages, and counting.

Adrian I've laid my track on 5" x 7" x 6'-0" ties (made by Mt. Albert).

                  Have a great evening everybody.

[:-propeller][:-party] Alright!! The new lounge is all fixed up now, new stacks of magazines, lots of firewood, fridge is full of soda and beer and some fresh stale donuts are on the counter over there...Lars did you try the Back Door??? it's open! We also got a new DVD for Les so he could kick back with some train movies, but no video games, they are addicting and can lead to non modeling, we need Les active in the loco shop!

Well, goodnight everyone us poor working slobs gotta get up at 5am so it's off to bed. Glad everyone showed up for the open house party.... Jerry

Thanks fro the info Ron and Bill.

Also to add to the comments about us being so active. I believe if it wasn't for this group of people i would be stuck in the toy train stage looking at the magazines thinking i wish i knew how they did that. Without this resource im not sure i would have become so addicted to this scale.

Anyway off to my bench to finish off an n scale kit i have been working on then to fix that climax that stop working for some unknown reason.

Also just to add. I came across these two pics while i was browsing through my photos today. Thought they may inspire a bash project for someone.

Good morning everyone, and there's coffee and rolls on the counter. The roofers are back in the snow and cold, poor guys.

Bill, those two foot ties actually compare much better with the size of the ties on the Peco 00 code 100 track (NOT the code 83 american tie size)than with their 0n30 track...hmm... he said, while ducking and running for shelter...

                        Have a nice day anyhow!

                            Troels,

I am a firm believer in the statement you can find a prototype for almost anything if you look hard enough, so do not duck and cover.

I have some pictures of 30" track in an old NG&SLG taken at a lumber mill in Washington. The ties look exactly like HO track in ON30. There is a picture of a guy pushing a car and the back of his heal is touching the tie and the toe of his boot is 2" from the next tie. So unless he has clown [:-clown] shoes the tie spacing is around 13 - 14 inches. Also the ties only extend out the sides of the rails a short distance less than a foot.

So now I can duck and cover as well.

                            Jerry,

Thanks for setting up the new place. It's nice and comfy.

                            Adrian,

                            Great pictures.

                            Les,

Still in love with the open top rail bus you created and I finally won one on ebay.

Can you remind me what you used to power it.

                              Troels, Bill, et al

Yes, that table seems to show anything goes in On30.

Harold Minkwitz in his web site http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/4x8/ replaced his handlaid On30 track with HO 83.

I even think Code 100 HO would look ok and certainly be cheaper than On30 stuff or even the HO code 83, at least according to the table Bill posted.

Code 100 would be about 5" high which would be 80# rail.

Well, that's my take on it.

                              Any other thoughts?[?]
