Dallas ... welcome aboard and thanks for sharing.

I would go with the putty or stick on weights unless one has a reason to work with a lot of weight. I have the equipment and lead because of my fishing jigs otherwise I would use an alternative method.

    Good luck Geezer ....

I mentioned the A-Line lead putty (think they call it "moldable lead")... which is quite handy for certain applications, but expensive.

Lead putty was briefly a common item for fishing but seems to have fallen completely out of favor for environmental reasons ...

Did some more surfing and found a Tungsten putty called "Wutty" on this site:

      https://www.winderby.com/m05_040829.html

Apparently, tungsten is a high-density material ... but not as dense as myself or most of my buddies! :erm:

Now ... don't all go rushing out at once ... I placed an order to TRY some and I'll report back after the stuff arrives. Give it a week or so ...

Stick-on and lead BB's are still the cheapest way, but sometimes a putty is just right for "molding" weight without getting into all that messy melting stuff ... look forward to seeing how this stuff works.
      Cheers,

      Dallas

        Dallas,

I look forward to the test. Thanks for signing on and contributing.

Now if we could just open up a line of communication with the manufacturer maybe we could talk them into casting a test roof, end beams and side frames out of metal for a little experiment on weight. I have a second mighty midget that I am waiting to build and three extra 44 ton trucks.[:-angel]

All kidding aside these are great little models and the extra weight makes a lot of difference.

Too bad it is getting so hard to find the drive units.

If you querry " tungsten putty" you will find some fly fishing supply stores carry it. One of these stores may be near you allowing for a first hand look at the product.

            Hey Larry,

I like the little critter. Was there much space for the decoder? Reason I ask, I have two of my own that I made and I'm thinking of adding DCC and Sound, not much room though.

            What do you think?

I think you are killing me... TH&B is my favorite paint scheme. There was not a lot of room in the mighty midget but just enough for a Train Control System M1 Decoder.

If your critters are ahm drive units I think you may be able to get an n scale sound decoder inside the long hood. You may have to have the sound fire up through the fan ducts at the top. Carve out the covers glue in a speaker and make a new cover out of fine screen.

                  Hey Larry,

One is Athearn and the other is the old Riverossi drive unit. I was thinking that since these are HO that maybe N Scale sound decoder may work. What do you think? I like your idea of up through the fan and put a new screen in the opening.

                    Ralph,

I hate to say as I do not know what the draw is on the motor.

I have used a lot of 1 amp decoders designed for N scale in ON30 models all the way up to the Bachmann shay so I think I would try a Digitrax dz125 $20.00 and if it works move up to a sound decoder.

Now I have to watch them raise Wendel's jersey to the rafters. Go Leafs Go.

                      Larry,

I missed the first part of the game, but watched the rest. How the hell did they loose. They where walking all over Chicago.

What part of the US are you in to be able to watch the leaf game?

Back to the decoders, Quantum has come out with what the call, 'Revolution' and is available in a Switcher sound track or an RS-3. I just have to wait for the universal model.

I'll take a look at the Digitrax one you mentioned.

                        Hey Larry!

Thought I'd throw another at you, since you like the colours.

                          Ralph,

I need to stop in and see your layout next time I am in TO.

I thought the Leafs were going for a draft pick and rebuilding...

I live in Charlotte NC. They have the NHL channel in the US. It carries Hockey Night in Canada... Sweet...

Here is my theater room wall of shame. Lots of game used sticks and autographed jerseys.

We get to meet the Leafs when they play in NC. I know where they stay.

The digitrax decoder I listed has no sound. I was just thinking better to blow a $20.00 decoder than a $100.00 sound decoder if the motor had a lot of current draw.

Boy oh boy is someone home sick! Is that green jersey, Toronto St Pat's?

What a great collection! You must be proud of that.

Next time your in town look me up, or better still, let me know when your coming and I'll give you my number. Not that I don't want to play trains but if your here over Christmas /New Years, I will be on a cruise in the Caribbean.
