  • WP -and- YR Engine # 52

Looking for information and pictures that you may have taken about Locomotive #52, White Pass and Yukon Railroad.

    Please post your pictures here.

Is there a similar 0N30 model out there?

    Hi Tom,

Wrong part of Alaska for me but using Google I did find the following web site with a picture which if you click on it will enlarge it for you.

    http://drgw.free.fr/WP&YR/Engines/Steam/Vapeur_en.htm

There is also a picture found on this site.

      John,

Thanks for the link. My brother sent me a picture (paper) he took acouple of weeks ago.

I'll get him to send it to me electonicly so I can post it.

Just thought this could be an interesting project, building an 0N30 Loco WP & YR # 52, replicated ..

          Tom,

I went back and zoomed in on some of the yard pictures I took from the train and I did find #52 in the distance.

Now I wish my wife would have let me walk from town to the yard to look around some.

I hope these help in some way.

Tom - just a guess, but the old HO "General" or Inyo may be a source....

Look at somne of the pictures and see what you think. Besides,

the old General had a "tender drive" unit that could be used elsewhere.

                Hi Tom --

Maybe ... if not, you'll have to build one and show us how it's done!

The MDC/Roundhouse (now Athearn?) 2-6-0 jumps to mind:

                http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Round.../rnd-84706.htm

It has rather large drivers which should translate well to On30 ... RTR model with DCC and sound at a seemingly good price ... don't have one so it might be worth surfing to see what folks think of the HO model.

Not affiliated with Model Train Stuff site ... but it's run by a local shop (MB Klein) that's been around for ages. I've purchased other items in their local shop and via the web with good results.
                Cheers,

Thanks for the info .... just catching up on the posts. My laptop has been acting bad the last few days so I have missed these posts.

I wonder what the DCC and sound is like in the Roundhouse product?

                      Tom,

I would be interested as well. If it is anything like the other MRC sound I have it is sound but not close to LOK. I would like to see you build this engine as I need to interchange with the WP&Y at Carcross.

Also if you are looking for someone to go up to skagway and measure this thing I am in for a road trip. I want to fly to Vancouver and take the marine ferry to Skagway. You can camp on the deck of the ferry and then camp in Skagway.

                      I may never come back....

Not worth wasting the extra money on the MRCsound version? The MRC sound units have a very short life and marginal sound. Go with Soundtraxx it is 16 bit sound not like everyone else's only 8 bit. Big difference.

I put the larger Tsunami in the Roundhouse tender with two dissimilar speakers and it sounds great.
