  • Malcolm Furlow has passed away

I was just reading on a couple of FB sites that Malcolm Furlow has passed away.

Legendary model railroader, and a huge influence on the hobby in the 70's & 80's.
Especially for anyone modelling narrow gauge.
I still have all his MR articles.
    Regards Rob

Wow, sad news indeed. I enjoyed his videos with John Olson and Allen Keller back in my impressionable years. Thanks for the fun times, Malcolm.

        Thanx Thom...

An inspiration, even if not my style. But he showed what you could capture in a small space. And I'm sorry to read the cause, too :-(

It saddens me to read that. He passed quite young, really.

I always enjoyed viewing/reading about his model railroading creations. The guy had talent. More so than I will ever possess.

He was quite relaxed in front of a camera, and I suspect some of his actual personality came through because of it. When viewing a video he was in, I always found his relaxed approach along with his slight "Texas drawl" dialect added to the entertaining value of them.

Truly legendary and controversial at times influencer before that was a popular term. I loved his work.

              Sad news, a legend.

Very sorry to hear this sad news. I met Malcolm back in the late 70's at a local hobby shop. He was one of the set designers for the Disney Thunder Mountain. I purchased his book and he was kind enough to sign it. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. He will certainly missed.

Condolences to his family and extended railroad modeling friends.

                  Tom

Of course, hugely influenced by John Allen, as these pics show, but then added his own signature style that made him stand out.
