Bernd, I've seen "shake" the box kits, but this is definitely a "shingle" the roof undertaking. It's looking good.

Thanks Bill. Working on shingling the roof now. Not real nice weather to do that in here in upstate NY. it's cold, rainy & windy, but I'll git 'er done.

Hey, quit yer bitchin'. You're not -outside- doing that roofing work! (My brother the carpenter hated doing roofs. It was always too hot or too cold, and raining when it wasn't snowing.)

Finally after two weeks I've got the shed roof shingled. Of course a problem had to rear it's ugly head, it's call Warpage.

What to do? Well, I wet it down good.

Then I squeezed the ever-living excrement out of it.

I guess when I glue the roof down I'll have to squeeze the excrement out of it again.

Looking to do the rest of the building's roof with a different sub-roof. Maybe plastic and use ACC to glue the shingles down. That's the update up to now.

        Bernd,

The shingles themselves look good, from what I can see.

I know you didn't ask for advice, but if I may make a couple of suggestions. . .
        1. I think most of us attach the subroof to the structure before applying shingles. If glued down well, the subroof does not warp as you experienced.
        2. You need good glue surfaces to attach the subroof to the walls. The top edges of the walls are often not enough. Gluing stripwood along the edges of the side walls will help. Also, you can run stripwood near the top and bottom of the roof area parallel to the other two sides. Hard to explain but you get the picture, I hope. You can see what I did on my current depot project. ( https://railroad-line.com/node/40211/page36#post1032701 ) I might be adding more bracing along the lower edge for glue surfaces.

          Thanks Mike.

I always like advice and don't mind getting it. Here are some better pictures of the roof project on the sheds. I did brace them with 1/4" square lumber.

The reason I didn't glue the sub-roof down first was for the ease of being able to apply the individual shingles easier. Guess I'll have to take the not so easy route and glue down the sub-roof on the main building. I'll add some more bracing also.

BTW, for that posting picture problem. The camera I use is a Cannon Powershot SX20. It takes 4000 X 3000-pixel picture. I then run those through PhotoScape X Pro and resize them to 1024 pixel width. The first picture is 1024 wide X 527 high and is 392,872 Bytes in size. The second picture is 1024 wide by 1090 high and is 824,743 Bytes in size. The last picture is 1024 wide by 1400 high and is 881,233 Bytes in size. All three pictures are 180 pixel resolution, both vertically and horizontally. I don't think from those values that Byte size wise is the problem in picture posting. This leans more toward the pixel size of the picture. But then I'm not a software guy and only expressing my observations.

I think it's time to throw away those cell phone cameras out for a 35mm digital camera, just my opinion.

            Bernd,

Yes, shingling is very awkward when the subroof is already in place.

Not to be contrary, but I’ve had such good results with my year-old IPhone that I’ll stick with it.

I usually use a width of 800 or less so that the file is <2kb in size. I’ve also found that a good size for presentations.

As I've said elsewhere, you also have to downsize quality (allowing more image compression), not just image size on the screen. "Medium" usually looks good enough for these kinds of pictures.

That was a togue in cheek comment on the cell phone. Whatever works is great.

Bernd, a suggestion: Can you lightly mist the underside of the roof and then put it under weights to dry and hopefully de-warp?

              Dave,

That's what I did to get it to the less warped state in the picture. I'll clamp back down when I glue in place.

Thanks Rick. That's Spanish Cedar I picked up at the Wood Craft Store. I then cut it into strips and chopped them from 18" to 2' in length.
