  • Pics not showing up unless logged in ? ?

Hello. I cannot see any photo's on any threads unless I'm actually logged in.
On both my home computer and work one, and different browsers. Only seeing links in red, which don't go anywhere
Is this just a temporary glitch in the system.

    this is what I get

    Hi Rob.
I logged out and tried looking and pictures and had the same result.
Wether this a temporary thing or permanent needs to be answered by Joe.

      I found the answer.
This was posted by Joe yesterday.

Personally I would rather have the " guest member " photo viewing OFF, and get a faster speed server for our use. I always log in anyway to view RR-L. Just my opinion here.

I tend to avoid forums I have to join or log in just to view a photo. And I know people who follow this forum that are not members. I don't log in here unless I have something to say.

I noticed the same thing: no photos if not logged in, however with guest photo viewing shut off the forum isn't any faster at all for me.
I had given the forum link to my on going layout tour to a number of friends who are not model railroaders but wanted to see what I've been doing. Last week they could look through the posts, now they can't and a modeling forum isn't something they'd ever sign up for.

I have to agree with Terell and Bill, I wouldn't sign up on a forum unless I could preview the type of work being one by members. I also haven't noticed any difference in speed. Also depends on your connection. Right now over a "hot spot" from my cell phone = slow.

                Hi all,
I'm jumping in this as well. I made a post yesterday and found it wasn't listing photos as well. So I spent some time (way too much for my free time) and reposted several times with things not listing, either way, I'm signed in or not.

I too don't like to sign in unless I've got something to say or post. Also, I make links from several other places (e-mails, texts, other forum quick links) of my recent post to others who I think would either like to view, learn from or simply spread the modeling word while referring the public to this forum (even if it's to see my latest works).

I don't like having to sign in to view pics of what others are doing and when I sign in~things are still not showing thru. (very displeasing and unmotivating). For my hard work of posting... Just saying!

                Thanx Thom....

Looks like Joe has gone back to allowing non members to view photo's.
I can now see pics when not logged in.

And like others, I would not join a forum, just to look at photo's occasionally.
I already have enough passwords, logins, etc to remember.

Regarding speed, a lot of the time it is the individuals computer that is slow, not the internet or site.
My old computer, 6 years old, was slow for everything. I just assumed it was my internet speed.
Got a new computer last December. Everything now loads within seconds.
                  Regards Rob

Just a theory here with reguards to pictures not showing up and server running slow? I notice a lot of advertisments on each thread (infact each post)? Could it be that having these advertisements here eat up a lot of the server's processing? It is a lot of data, pictures and movement pop ups in every thread.

Perhaps it they were all turned off for a day to see what happens and if it's a good thing not to have them (which I know helps generate a little operating cost). Then perhaps if we want this forum to succeed and continue maybe we all chip in a few bucks to keep her running? Just a thought on the slowness/pictures not showing up after we spent so much time posting.

                      Thanx Thom...

Thom, I don't see any ads when I'm here.
I wonder if being an Admin makes a difference.
                        Does everyone see ads?

I only see adverts when I look in here using my Kindle Fire and never when using my computer. I may not be signed in on the Kindle either.

                          That's what I thought.
Why would anyone log out every day and then log in (or not) the next day?
