For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with this house. It's in the nearby town Of Graham, NC. As of today it is a Bank of America building. Of course the bank is not what I'm interested in. In tracing back the history behind the house I've learned that it was built circa 1873 by E.M. Holt, a textile magnate of the times. There was actually three houses that he built over time, each was as a wedding gift for one of his daughters. Only two still exist, this one and the sister house, not far south, that is now the Alamance Art society. Before the bank the house was used as a funeral home beginning circa 1949. Before that I heard it may have been a boarding house. Anyway, this is going to be a challenge, something I was looking for, I just hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew. With all of it's offsets, recesses, insets, incense, peppermints....
Here's more of an overall shot to show that...this ain't no little bungalow.

Of course I won't be building the drive-thru.

WOW Fred! If you plan on constructing this, we all have a lot of catching up to do, myself included. I will definitely be following along on this ride. A beautiful building, by The Master !!

Thanks, Rich, Carl, Bob and Bruce.
A couple of things I meant to point out. I'm calling this the Holt house because I know no better. The neighboring "sister" house was called the White house because it was built for Captain James White and Emma Holt. I don't know which daughter this was built for or who her husband was, just that it was built by EM Holt. In fact I have more info on the White house than I do on the house I'm actually building. Maybe in 2021 when I finish this one I will explore than one again.
Also, I'm sure it's genetically impossible for me to build something that looks so neat and pristine, so we'll have to see how that goes.

The prototype house is a real beauty. I expect in your hands the model will be a beauty as well, even if showing the passage of time.

Wow! Quite a project even though I'm guessing you aren't planning to build the extention out the back of the house. About that "drive-thru" are you sure it wasn't originally a covered entrance for carriages that got expanded by the bank? Will this go near the boarding house when completed?

Thanks, Mike and Ray !!
Bill, I did find this artist rendering from a website about the former funeral home, ca. 1949.

I'm not sure where it will go but I thought of the tenement, too.

Great project, but do you have to include the "Alumicide" parts? The original building is elegant!

Wow! That's a very stately looking home. Looks like this beauty is right up your alley. I'll be watching you build this with great interest!
