I recently received Bill Linley's new "Trackside Newfoundland" all-color book (Morning Sun, ISBN 1-58248-680-8). Bill's captions fill most of the white space between pictures, but the only map reproduced shows 1960-ish CN lines across the whole island, plus bits of Nova Scotia and Labrador. I'm tempted to pick up an earlier book for more detail on lines abandoned before that. I photographed Nova Scotia branchline railroading in the 1980s (all gone now) so have always been curious about the area.

I see quite a few Narrow Gauge modelers who like diesels, forests, rocks and ocean on their layouts. Maine had some, but Atlantic Canada had a lot more. Pieroway's "Rails Around the Rock" has a similar focus on color pictures. Bill/Morning Sun also did "Trackside in the Maritimes" (ISBN 1-58248-459-7) a few years ago if you're looking for standard gauge modeling inspiration.

Having traveled through Newfoundland many times, I am intrigued by what you might find! Please keep us informed.
