It doesn't cut into the small yard and transfer area and it doesn't really extend out into the room much at all. You could build the benchwork etc so it bends around to follow the curve of the TT perimeter. I drew it pretty quickly and obviously the turnout is not in a good place.

As I was checking to see if the TT interfered with the larger staging yard across the way (I don't think it does) I noticed that the two yards have different numbers of tracks. Is there a reason for this? It's not a rule but doesn't it usually work out that there is a nearly equal number of tracks in each direction? I'm guessing that you will have more out and back trains originating from the large staging yard. I'm starting to get on the subject of operations, I guess.

The big yard will store a lot of assembled car kits :-) :-)

I think pushing the turntable out that far would break up flow in that room. I'll wait until I get the main yard built and then see how the big sofabed that's stuck in that room fits for a revised flow.

edit Here are some photos of the larger room (excuse the construction mess!!)



You can see how that turntable would probably not fit well in the larger room. The drills are on the smaller yard, and the sofabed is where the large yard will go (eventually.)

Dave,

I suspected there was a constraint with regard to the end of the small yard that I was not aware of. And I know all about using yards to display rolling stock. In any case you have some ideas to work with.

Today I finished #2 of the 4 curved turnouts I need. Even better, I un-soldered one set of points and replaced them with a better pair on one of these.

(I'm glad no one will score me on my solderingÖ)

I also putzed a little bit with the aluminum fixtures for the gate. Mostly, though, I discovered I need metric allen wrenches for these. No problem, I still have some engineering and parts-gathering to do before I'm ready to start serious work on the gate.

That's the crew lounge, exercise room, shop room, train overflow area, and extra guest bedroom (that's a sofa-bed.)

Tonight I cut the gaps in my 4 curved turnouts. That's a pain-in-the-posterior, fishing the jeweler saw blade between the rails, then hooking it back up to the saw frame (a 3-handed job)... I still need to test connectivity, solder the frog wires, and mount to the tie strips.
