Carl,

My design is freelance. I did some net searching and didn't find anything that matched my needs. Cannery Row in Monterey, CA had some interesting buildings, but I was looking for smaller structures. I wound up trying to find what characteristics in the internet photos conveyed the tone I wanted and trying to incorporate those into a design. Additionally, the area I'm modeling is not a wealthy area compared to some of the bigger cannery locations, so I needed to keep the design simple.

Also looked at some pictures of inside the buildings so that I had some understanding of what went on in the process. I really no little about the industry,

Not sure if I've been any help.

Dave

Most of the 3rd building now finished. Still have to add the roof which will be flat tar paper, and roof details. Will then move onto the dock that surrounds the 3 buildings. Also have some patching of some areas of the buildings that I don't think came out well (around some windows, building and roof joints, etc.

Impressive work. It's neat seeing buildings built to their full (scale) size.

You have an interesting prototype.

Mike

More progress. I'm apprehensively about to start the scenery in this area as I'm worried about integrating the pilings of this build and the trestle I've build previously into the base. I've cut a styrene base for the area and will be planning how to address the scenery.

I plan on ordering some of the 10mm static grass made by scenic express which should be high marsh grass for n-scale. I expect this to go very slowly as I plod through the planning.

Nicely done. Wood color is right on the mark. I have the feeling once you get a good hold on doing the scenery you will not want to stop.

Mike,

I'm thinking of painting the styrene and then overlaying with acrylic gel. My biggest challenge is the saltgrass marsh area. I'm considering coating a very thin sheet of acetate with acrylic gel and then using 12mm static grass. Then, laying this sheet over the painted water base. Hoping that the acetate sheet could then be blended into the water with more acetate gel and also allow for the grass to look like it's in the water because of the transparency of the acetate sheet.

I've seen others use faux fur and Woodland Scenics Field grass but it doesn't give the look I'm going after

Any thoughts and does anyone know of any layouts with large marsh areas?
