I have made some progress on the Brooks 2-8-0 today. I have mounted a new air pump on the right side of the loco and started on the new piping. It also have received a new headlight and I have test mounted the new cab. It's getting closer and closer to the original.

Thanks Bob, I simply imported the drawing into Sketchup and traced the length of the curved roof. After that simple mathematics based on the angle and radius to calculate the length.
The laser cut piece was then bent using round utensils.

Hi All, it has been way to long since I last updated on the F-1 so tonight its time

I have come a long way since last time. I changed my mind concerning the compound cylinders and after some thought I drew them up and had them printed together with mudguards, brake pads, tender tool boxes and pilot.


Yes one of the staffs are broken. That FUD is fragile.

After examinimg the tender I found it could not be used. It was longer than original and the shell had 90deg corners not rounded as original. Luckily I had a Bachmann 4-6-0 tender shell which measured up quite nicely. It was a little to low though. First I thought to use the original tender frame and make a shim piece to raise the tender but it fell on the steps that was not near close enough to the original ones.



So back to the drawing board. I decided to make the frame in brass inspired by Bobs efforts. Here is how it came out. I made a shelve to raise the shell. I was very happy with the results. The only work I had to do on it was to drill out and tap some holes.




After that I went to work changing the tender shell and adding details to the loco also starting with painting. Here is how everything looked at this point.

Håkan,

That's going to be an impressive locomotive when you're finished. I don't imagine many models of compounds have been built. Maybe about as many as there are cylinders on your model.
