On 11/09/06 Joe archived several thousand topics/posts in order to optimize the Railroad-Line database and speed up page loading. (You may have noticed the recent slow down, with pages taking long periods of time to download or "time out" error messages appearing instead of the page you were trying to access. This was an indication that archiving was long overdue.)

While the archived topics/posts can no longer be replied to, they can still be opened and read by forum members. Additionally, the forum's search engine (and others such as Google) can still locate specific topics or key words in the archived posts.

For those members who would like to browse the archived topics, this is a brief tutorial explaining two ways to identify and access the Archive folders for each forum area of RR-L.

One way is to click on All Forums" in the mid-upper left portion of your screen

This will show you the overall structure of RR-L, with the main forum categories and the various forum areas within each category. On the right side of the screen you should see a folder icon with the letter "A" on the folder (circled in red in the graphic below). (Also, note that some forums do not have an archive folder icon; this indicates that no topics/posts were archived in that particular forum. The Craftsman's Corner is one such forum.)

If you click on the folder icon, it will open the archived topics for the corresponding forum area. Simply click on the topic title, as you normally would, and the topic will open for reading (but not replying) as usual.

Another way to find the archive folders is to click on the major forum category link ("General Forums," for example - as illustrated below).

The resulting screen will show you only the sub-forums which are attached to that category. Again, those forum areas which have archived topics will be identified by the archive folder icon on the right. Click on the folder icon to view the list of archived topics/posts.
