When I used to ride the Erie and then E-L as a young 'un, I used to see crew members and conductors with these bags. They used 'em to carry everything from lunch and a thermos of coffee to all of the tickets, timetables, and other stuff that conductors had to carry. I picked this one up on eBay recently...circa 1950s.
