Posted - 01/09/2021 : 5:08:28 PM i need a depot for the train to bring fishermen to norton's, and the one i had was awesome but took up too much room, so i opted for a smaller depot. here's the cover of the box:

and the contents of the box:
to eliminate the need for interior bracing art has decided to cut the walls out of thicker plywood. it's pretty thick. 1/8". there are a few castings that came with the kit. a chimney, some barrels and some pretty lame fake gooseneck lamps. a smokejack, a fuse panel/electric meter and a chimney round out the castings. the roofing is "slate". 've never done slate so that should be interesting.
here's the walls painted. i decided to go with traditional burnt umber for the windows, doors and trim, and cableknit gray for the walls.

and here are the walls all trimmed out. i still have to weather them, add window treatments and back the windows and doors with black paper
the station comes with a prescribed self adhesive platform and base. i think i'm just going to hit it with silverwood, maybe two coats. i don't know.

Posted - 02/02/2021 : 10:14:23 PM Kevin nice job on the burn barrel. Boy dose that bring back memories. Spent a lot of time in the winter around barrels just like that on the job site. |

Posted - 01/30/2021 : 9:02:26 PM Fantastic weathering and finish Kevin. I still spend time around a burn barrel and you got it perfect.
Brett's details at SWSM are the best.

Posted - 01/30/2021 : 5:23:33 PM sierra west scale models recently released a line of details that brett designed and 3d printed. this one in particular is a deteriorated oil drum (barrel). the casting (with prototypical wall thickness):

casting primed with rattle can flat black orimer

after about a half an hour playing with chalks and alcohol

these are real cool. i spent many hours standing around a burn barrel just like this one. check it out. swsm came up with some other really cool details and they are available for sale. i have no affiliation with sierra west scale models other than really enjoying building his kits. this is a perfect burn barrel. |

I do like Bar Mills kits.
You did a fine job. |
