I've have built 2 of Campbell's Brett's Breweries and was not pleased with the butt gluing of the exterior pieces together. The 2 prior kits had different wood cuts for the exterior and I couldn't get a nice hiding stain to cover the walls; the top and bottom pieces did not match at all. So, I've got a third kit that I want to build and I was thinking of using MinWax to stain the wood. I've heard that MinWax doesn't take kindly to gluing windows or wood to the stained pieces because it is a sealer also. I also have some aged driftwood stain from Dr. Ben's Consortium. Would that work as a "primer" to unite the pieces together and then use an A&I stain over that. Hope I explained my problem. I don't want to throw away another Brewery. You can tell immediately that the new kit has different types of wood; so without a cure; I will have the same problem....I've never spray painted a wood building yet and don't want to resort to that...but?

I doubt you'll get the effect you want from two separate pieces of wood. But what I'd consider trying is a good coat of sanding sealer, then some steel wool, and then try the stain before assembling. That might even out the differences between the pieces of wood. If that doesn't work, then either spray or brush paint a primer coat of a 'wood colored' primer. (I like the Badger Neutral Yellow primer, and I've had good luck putting HunterLine stains over that stuff after it's cured.)
