Very quaint and "cool".

Very nice stonework, Bob. You've done a good job of showing the potential of balsa foam.

Well... I guess spring hasn't sprung yet for this soon to be covered in snow spring house.

I agree, Bob. No since modeling what can't be seen. Looking good!!
sgtbob Posted - 02/18/2020 : 08:59:10 AM
I took a piece of 1/32 basswood sheet and embossed some random grooves moving with the
grain. Then I sliced it into one shingle width strips and the cut the strips into individual shingles.

These were applied along all edges and stained with an alcohol-ink mixture. Great
looking shingle job isn't it??

Wait, something's wrong.

well, since the roof will be covered with snow it seemed a waste of time and material
to do more that what edges might show.

Greg, Mike, Ray, Bruce, and Bill, Thanks for checking in and commenting.

Bill, it was the stone that retained the cool but I guess facing south would be a good idea too.

Looks really good, Bob. Does that overhanging roof side face southso the overhang can shade to wall and help keep the interior cool?
Dutchman Posted - 02/18/2020 : 08:21:14 AM
Very nice, Bob. Those corner joints have become invisible.
Ray Dunakin Posted - 02/18/2020 : 01:09:57 AM
"I had some on hand." An excellent justification, and one I've used many times. :)

Michael Hohn Posted - 02/17/2020 : 5:06:35 PM
The architecture looks very appropriate to your area, Bob.
Ensign Posted - 02/17/2020 : 1:02:55 PM
Bob, your roof looks good with it's generous overhang on the front.
Looks like Charlie is enjoying the shade from it.

Thanks Ray.

I added the roof made from black foamcore. I chose black for two reasons, 1. if any little
cracks in the roof covering show, the black will look ok, not the usual white, and 2. I
and some on hand.

I added the beams that support the roof overhang and the roof trim with basswood and made thumb latches
for both doors from stryene scraps. Since the doors swing inward the hinges would be on the
inside so I just modeled the bolts holding the hinge straps from styrene rods glued into
holes and mushroomed over with heat.

All door hardware was painted black with just a slight rust wash.

Looking good, Bob!

Bruce, Greg, Mike, Dave, and ate, thanks for your comments.

Pete. yes, the stone walls on that PA German Barn are of Balsa foam as is the entire main
building in my Dickens Christmas dio. I'm sure there are others but this old brain is not
coming up with them

Bob,

Wonderful work as usual!

Have you used balsa foam on some of your other buildings?

Pete
