For my next Railroad I want to replicate some of the activities of the Corps of Canadian Railway Troops in Europe 1918.

At the height of World War 1 the Corps of Canadian Railway Troops contained 19,000 personnel - 16,000 working in France and Belgium, with the remainder in England.

Canadian railway soldiers constructed all light railways in areas occupied by the five British Armies, and 60 % of the standard gauge lines connecting the channel ports to the front lines. In total, Canadians built 1169 miles of broad gauge railway line and miles of narrow gauge line during their wartime service. That is some serious Narrow Gauge railroad to model.

For some partial information you can go to this link:
http://guysboroughgreatwarveterans.blogspot.com/2013/02/canadian-railway-troops.html

I will be modeling using 1/43 and 1/48 in forced perspective. Track will be Code 70 set at 16.5 mm. It should be 14mm but I need to use available drive units from HO models. Therefore the closest fit is ON30.

I have been building a few models for the past 6 months. Now it is time to get serious.

Let the games begin.

Thanks Dave and Mike.

I have been working on stuff. This weekend I put DCC with keep alive in three petrol engines and started working on 7 more wagons and 3 Howitzers.

Here is a picture of one of the work in progress projects, a damaged d class wagon.

This is the reference picture:

Thanks all,

Jerry, I think Les is up to something that will top this.

Frank, I am going to have a backdrop but have not found a picture that works, so far. It may have to be painted.

Larry, nice going. I can't imaging painting all those details and figures. Are you going to have a backdrop picture?

Very impressive, Larry.

Thanks Arthur,

A few more pictures. I hope to get to the hardware store soon to get the materials for the next 8 feet of modules. I have all the details painted just need the pink foam for the base.

I hope these pictures will keep you all interested.

Looking good, Larry. I like how well made the figures are.
BigLars Posted - 04/19/2020 : 3:40:58 PM
Thank you everyone.

Michael, this will be a show layout and I need the keep the viewers attention. I plan on having many mini scenes based on WW1 photographs showing what was and what could have been the next day or week. No way to reproduce the actual people in the pictures at least not at this point in time.
Michael Hohn Posted - 04/19/2020 : 09:09:54 AM
Your scene has so many interesting bits; its easy to get lost looking at the details. Beautiful craftsmanship.
