With its shorter days and days off, this time of the year tempts the modelmaker to start new projects. I try to resist temptation by beginning the new year with fewer unfinished projects on my desk.

One that has gone unfinished for too long is my model of a Central of Vermont boxcar, actually a modified BTS laser kit of a PRR 28' boxcar. Today it went through the paint shop.

Next step: Art Griffin decals.

Dave,

The ďlookĒ is primarily what Iím after, so thank you for your comment.

Ricketts, Alderson and other places along the LV Bowmanís Creek Branch were in a tourist region of lakes and streams; Iím not surprised youíve been there.

Nice! You've captured the look with the parts from the parts-box. I think I've been to Ricketts Glen State Park, but I don't remember if any of the lumber era buildings are still there. (It was more than 40 years ago...)

I started building a company store for my town of Alderson, PA. My model will be based on the frame structure shown here beyond the water tank and freight house:

What does it look like on the sides facing away from us? I donít know, so I have carte blanche. Iíve long had my eye on an article from 1977 by Jerry Strangarity on building a Pennsylvania company store:

Hereís a company store in Ricketts, PA, on the same branch of the LV that runs through Alderson:

My model is a combination of Strangarityís plans, the store in Ricketts, and parts I have on hand. Openings have been cut out for the front and rear walls.

Iíll do some bracing and painting and then on to the sides.

Thanks, George. Iím glad you like it.

Any simple upgrade like that that I start always takes fifteen weeks, six trips to the LHS or hardware store, two weeks of waiting for a widget that did the "ping-tink" routine and is now "somewhere out there," and three bandages. You must live Right!

Very nicely done, Mike!

Thank you, Pete.

I know how you feel. Actually, halfway through I had to order parts from Tichy, but his turnaround is so fast that they arrived by the time I was ready for them.

Also, I surprise myself sometimes; donít assume Iím usually so efficient.

Brave move, but it paid off very nicely.

Bob

Yes it did. Thank you, Bob. It was with a little trepidation that I started removing the doors and end sills, but they popped off pretty easily. Fortunately Iím parsimonious with the solvent when working with styrene.

Thank you, Chuck! Building cars is a lot faster when all that needs to be done is replacing a few details.
