Posted - 05/18/2017 : 10:22:37 AM Hi all. I'm currently renovating a room for my layout. It's 22' x 16' and will have coved corners. My layout will be a freelancer Colorado narrow gauge in HOn3. I've drawn the track plans for it, and I can't wait to start building it. To prepare, I've been doing some city planning for one of the towns, called Twin Peaks (work name, yet to be decided) IMG_20170518_110214 by Michael Graff, on Flickr Main Street, the town will be 8' long. The station will be regauged to HOn3.

Posted - 10/23/2020 : 09:42:14 AM Hi,
I am enjoying the photos of structures and scenes on your layout, especially the overall views. It looks to me that in painting backdrops you put down layers of uniform color and go back to add details of mountains etc. I find it interesting that you don’t do the whole backdrop at once. I suspect that’s one big difference between a professional like you with complete control over your medium and an amateur like me. I doubt if I could mix the colors for mountains or forest the same if even a few months passed.
Thank you for posting. Excellent work.

Posted - 10/03/2020 : 2:24:00 PM The layout is ready for more work. I've cleared out everything non-essential from the train room, which gave me a little bit better overview of how to proceed.

I've got me some electrical work to do before I continue with the track laying. |

Posted - 05/26/2020 : 6:14:25 PM I built a Timberline kit I had in the stash. The Hardware store:
An old kit with some small faults.
I had to true up the walls, as they were leaning and too wide.
The shop windows, built from wood strips and plastic castings were a challenge as the templates were wrong and the windows too wide to get a good fit.... But it turned out pretty good. I added the awning as I didn't plan to have a lot of interior in this one.

Needs some details, then it's finished. |

Posted - 05/22/2020 : 07:41:20 AM Painted the new rockwork today. WS pigments. I have now soaked the surface with diluted Modpodge so I can add the black/raw umber wash.

Posted - 05/20/2020 : 5:29:14 PM A "grasshopper" pump! Hope you can automate it, it'll be cool to see that slowly doing its thing. Don't forget a local tank to store the oil.

Posted - 05/20/2020 : 1:05:45 PM Thanks! Had some time to spare today. I've painted part of the fascia, it looks so much better in black. Then I found an oil pump on Thingiverse that I printed on my resin printer last night. I'll see if it can be motorized. Done a bit more rockwork as well. I use ordinary plaster in aluminum foil.

There's a lot more to do on the layout. |

Posted - 05/19/2020 : 10:50:51 AM You've been really busy of late, Michael. I've enjoyed the layout photos. The lighting in the buildings looks neat - especially in those night shots.
Nice job on the foam rock work.

Posted - 05/19/2020 : 10:42:39 AM I made a bridge for the road to the tunnel. 3D printed sides and cardboard/wood subframe. I've just graveled the road, so the bridge is a little wet ...

Sylvan car I also built recently.

Posted - 05/16/2020 : 3:32:30 PM I made a retaining wall out of Depron foam that I scribed with a pencil before painting it with gesso and some paint.

I glued it in place with hot glue.

I surrounded it with my homemade Sculptamold. |

Posted - 05/15/2020 : 1:22:11 PM I made some utility poles today. It's an Auhagen kit.

I installed them temporary on the layout.

I will add E-Z line later. |
