here is some additional backstory. sheri's late husband kyle was in advertising. he was a wiz on a mac.
i made a deal with him. i told him that if he agreed to do all of our promo stuff for the band i'm in, i would build his wife a model of their home. he died a month later. i felt that i needed to build the model to honor our deal, so that is what i did. it is now finished and i'm waiting for her to get back from florida (sometime today) so i can bring it over there and give it to her.
here are four pics of the finished product:
all in all i have to say i'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out. as an aside, the guy that did the plaque was so taken by the story and pics of the model that he gave it to us for $10.00. offered $20.00 and he said no. the base is made from a plank of aspen and stained red mahogany (at the owner's request), then a couple coats of a matte verathane.
now i can focus on the backwoods water tower....

a few months ago i received the o scale resource magazine (an ezine) and on the cover was a
"what's on your bench" feature so i clicked the link and sent him the final pics of the bed and breakfast. he emailed me back almost immediately and asked if i'd want to write up a little something on the build.
it was published last week.
if your interested it's the article "scratch building with styrene".
i'm almost famous.....

Kevin, that is a stunning model, and beautifully presented. Really high quality work. And a fiiting tribute to friends, who obviously mean a lot to you.
I sure she will treasure it always.
Well done mate.

well, i have to say that i'm somewhat overwhelmed by your comments. thank you to everyone.
i wasn't able to meet up with her yesterday because she didn't get back from florida until quite late.
i'll be going over there today at 2 to give it to her. every sunday she goes to church and then after church she visits the cemetery. every sunday. a little more back story: sheri and kyle met at a crows feet gig (my band). a year later we played their wedding. sheri is a two-time cancer survivor, as is her daughter. following our 40th h.s. reunion, we all became as tight as thieves, and religiously get together to hang out. sometimes its a crows feet gig, and sometimes its at someone's home. they really are a great bunch of people. case in point: after kyle's death we presented her with a year's worth of landscape service. (and we renew it every year) anyway, i will get some pics today of her reaction to the model, and the model itself in situ and post them here.
