I saw a number of forum members there and visited/operated some nice layouts. During this trip my camera rolled over the picture counter from 9999 back to 0001. I only had time to shoot a few in the Contest room:

Rich Smith's HO scale New Lisbon, WI passenger station.

Rich's 2-stall enginehouse also follows a Milwaukee Road prototype.

Rich's coaling shed follows a circa 1960 MR article.

Here are a few final photos from Bob Hamm's HOn3 layout.

That big mine is the National Lead Company's titanium mine at Tahawus, NY.

Nice photos, guys!

Bob's layout is gorgeous! Thanks Bruce!

Here are a few more from Bob Hamm's HOn3 layout.

Some beautiful shots Bruce and James. Bob's layout looks especially nice. I particularly like that second shot of Bob's layout.

James, I didn't talk to Bob about this, but I sat in a clinic by Bill Brown where he alluded to it. A question was asked about using photo backdrops that had shadows on it. He mentioned that Bob Hamm actually located his layout lighting to make shadows that went in the same direction.
jbvb Posted - 09/22/2016 : 10:03:11 AM
It looks like Bob has made cloud shadows on his layout! I haven't seen anyone else do that. I was operating a kilometer or so away one night when he was open, now really I wish I'd stopped and asked if I could take a quick look on my way back to the highway.

Here are more from Bob Hamm's HOn3 DR&W layout.

Bill Gill Posted - 09/22/2016 : 09:29:32 AM
Nice shots James. John Nehrich was also looking for photos of the layout taken during the open house to post on the club's Facebook page, if you are so inclined:

More photos of the RPI club's NEB&W:

Beach scene on Lake Champlain north of Burlington, VT.

The drawbridge on the causeway to South Hero Island.

The prototype of the North Bennington, VT depot has been nicely restored.

A B&M 2-6-0 running through the Red Rocks scene.

Ore processing plant, maybe iron or titanium?

This covered bridge appears in many photos of the B&M in Troy, NY. It burned spectacularly in the 1960s.

Troy Union Station.

Doug Dederick has a great N-Scale layout with quite a few highly detailed scratch built structures. He held operating sessions, so perhaps some of our members participated in that. The name of his layout is the Kalispell Division.

Doug's scratch built Whitefish Station is a thing of beauty, and shows what can be done in N-Scale.

Bob Hamm, who is the National Contest Chairman for the NMRA, has a beautiful HOn3 D&RGW layout.

The New England, Berkshire & Western is the student model RR club of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. When the club was at its most active in the 1980s and '90s, the layout and projects of the members were frequently seen in print.

Now, RPI's emphasis on building security has the club pretty much locked down - only one alum has been given an access card, so nothing happens unless he's around. The basement location and the steam & cold water pipes along the ceiling don't help the layout either.

A street view in Troy, NY.

When the D&H went through downtown Saratoga Springs, NY.

This makes me think of Bartonsville, on the Bellows Falls line, but hold me to it.

Thank you for the excellent photos here and the conversation we had at the convention.

I'm thinking I should try to attend more NER conventions in the future.
