Merry Christmas!
I got a new camera as a gift from my wife.

I have used my old Sony DSC320 for several years, but it has starting to show its age...
The new one is a Sony DSC QX100:

It uses my smartphone as a display, and if I mount the lenz separately, I can be 30 feet away with the phone to control it. Very useful feature.
It is a very nice piece of hardware which will be very fun to use more.
Here is a test pic from this mornings "Julotta" (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julotta)

Yeah, I stuck with film for a long time, finally got my first digital pocket camera in 2009. Being able to shoot as many photos as I want, getting instant results (and if necessary, reshooting), and having high rez images ready to post online without going through the scanning process, really sold me on digital. I held onto my 35mm SLR for special cases, but found myself avoiding using it.

That is a great camera Ray, I used to miss my 35 MM equipment. I have an extensive collection. Now I have an extensive collection of digital'. I don't miss the 35 MM format any longer as theses new cameras do more and are producing even better results in some cases. However, I still think Koda Chrome 64 took the best photos in history of film and cameras...

Nice pics! Certainly better than what you'd get from the phone itself.

I took advantage of the post-Christmas sales to get myself a little "birthday present" -- a new DSLR camera. It just arrived today. It's a Canon Rebel T5 EOS 1200D. It came with a 18-55mm wide-angle lens, a 75-300mm zoom lens, several filters, and a camera bag.

I'll still use my pocket digital camera for most things, but I can do a lot of cool things with this new camera that the pocket camera can't do. Like long exposures for shooting photos of stars, meteors, or lightning. The zoom lens will be useful for shooting wildlife photos, and will also give me more options for photographing my railroad. I used to do those kinds of shots with a Pentax 35mm film camera, but film and processing are getting scarce and then I have to scan the pics, so I really wanted to switch to digital.

Of course, it can shoot HD video as well as stills.

Great shots. This kind of device certainly has outstanding possibilities.

Thanks Michael'..First time using the camera'. It's a great way to see what short comings are on the layout. As well as where more detail is needed'..Looking forward to seeing your test run with the Sony'...

I received the GoPro Hero 4 Session camera for Christmas. Here is a test video'..The layout is still a work in progress. Let me know what think of the quality of the video'..

HI again!
I took a couple of test shots today. I used no additional lights and in the photo size that is standard when transferred to the phone.

Feels like it's got potential.

With all the electronics gadgets that appear throughout the year the Sony optics are by far the best. Last year I purchased a small Go Pro type camera that was a Black Friday special, a one day only $229.00 MSRP. for $89.00 with free shipping. This camera is small enough to fit on a special flatcar to photograph track level video. Example link to Youtube segment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGDCDlfHS6Y
Since this purchase I have invested in additional equipment that have very similar optics. All are equal in quality. The last even has WIFI Bluetooth that can be linked to any other equipped device. I have linked it to my laptop for an example.

I'm going to have to keep that in mind for next year. Thank you for shown it to us and also for the beautiful photo with lesson.
