This morning, between rain showers, I happened to look out the window and saw this interloper taking its leisure in the shade garden next to the patio.

Of course, She-Who-Rules-The-Yard took exception to the intruder and barked furiously and bravely, albeit from a distance. She continued to bark long after the hapless creature had ambled back to the woods until I wacked her with a broom because she was driving me .

My wife and I went shopping today and when we were leaving I thought I’d take a picture of the bird rookery.

They’ve been there at least 10 years but this time I decided to stop. There are storks, snowy egrets and cattle egrets along with their young in the nest. This place is quite noisy with all the communication going on.

This is not really a wildlife photo, but it is something from our natural world.
A waterspout that I photographed in the Bahamas.

I see them only occasionally, pretty scarce around here. I get more alligators.

When you see Woody on the same tree multiple times, you'll want to keep a close eye on that tree. It probably means the tree has a serious problem and is likely to come down sooner rather than later. Although he might just be taking a break from that tree/stump between the photographer and Woody himself.

Ted, we have a "couple" that hang around the house. I've been trying for years to get a shot of them. They are very camera shy.

Fred, a real "Woody". We don't see too may of those guys up here in the North'..

Southern Pileated Woodpecker. Better known as Woody.

Frank Palmer Posted - 04/13/2018 : 09:42:43 AM
Ted, it made a full diet of duck last year. The kept dissapearing one by one. But they were those nasty looking Moscovy ducks.

Mike, that would be great for those solicitors.

Now if you could get that gator to lay around in your front yard you wouldn't have to worry about door to door salespeople!
quartergauger48 Posted - 04/12/2018 : 11:04:44 PM
Frank, he feels right at home on your spread'..It would appear he don't like duck'..
Frank Palmer Posted - 04/12/2018 : 4:21:19 PM
The backyard was busy today. Early on the Moor Hens paid me a visit. The Sandhill crane is on the nest across the pond, shouldn't be long now till the eggs hatch. But the Moor Hens better beware because the gator showed up this afternoon. Humm, 6' of shoes.

I didn't find a picture that looked exactly like the one in my yard. I couldn't decide if it was one or the other. Thanks Mike.

I believe that's a Dekay snake Frank. We have em' here as well. Had one on my layout awhile back in the process of getting ready to give birth. Got her out to the flower bed in the nick of time!
