Everything in this picture was cut on my Cricut Explore. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to make this, and some additional pieces, into a boxcar.





As a teenager, I was fascinated with John Allen's work and one thing that stuck in my mind was his swayback box car. This is going to be a swayback boxcar. That means many of the traditional methods of assembly will have to be modified. I've been wrestling with the design and methods of construction I'm going to have to use since before our quarantine. I think I'm ready to go. Here's the design I came up with. The nice thing about CAD is that I can take pieces of my original drawing and make them into parts drawings for Cricut to cut. I know I'm going to need more parts than what I have in the first picture. My plan is to use cardstock and wood for the car.



To help plan the construction and make sure some of my construction drawings were correct, I made a mock-up of the boxcar.



One thing I learned from the mock-up was the door opening was significantly going to add to the difficulty, so for this build, the side will be solid and the door closed.

Oh, this is boxcar is HO.

Bernd, my roll of 3M 465 adhesive is 1/4" wide. I don't have the label, so I have no idea the length, but the roll is about 5" diameter and enough to last me a life time.

The box cars have been in boxes since I built them, so there hasn't been any stress on the adhesive. I've used the adhesive on several structures over the past 5 or more years and everything is still holding.

I find it's great for fastening card stock to another material. It should work OK on the heavier board and batten siding. I think it's the same stuff that laser kit manufacturers use as the peel off adhesive on their wood parts.

I was searching the forum for "chipboard" and came across your thread on this boxcar build. I've got the chipboard. What I ran across was your method of using it to fix two materials together using 3M's 645 adhesive tape. I'm looking to get some and was wondering what you used in that product line, such as the 1" wide by 60 yrd. roll or something different? Also how has it held up in your use on the swayback car? I'm looking at joining the chipboard with North Eastern "board-n-batten" siding for my rock crusher building.

Great Build! I just love what you've done here. I really like the final results. I've always wanted to build a board by board sagging box car. I going to dig deep and get this checked off my modeling bucket list. Thanks for the motivation here.
