Nice site. Enjoyed looking around. Am in the early stages of designing a layout. As a kid, I ran Super O track and am considering making the layout using Super O track. Availability of wider radius curves is an issue. Will prob end up modifying the existing (36" dia circle) curves to increase diameters to 60" (5'),72" (6'),& 84" (7'). So, I was just looking around hoping to get some layout ideas.

I bought my first HO model train set when I was 12 years old, had it on lay-away at G&G Model Shop in the Village, Houston, Texas. I have loved trains all my life. My Grandfather worked the old Yazoo & Mississippi Valley RR (with John Luther Jones), I.C., Gulf Division, L&N and retired off the MoPac. He and his half brother owned the Louisiana Southern RR, which ran through the truck farms in Barataria. He had box cars loaded under guard (holding Thompson Sub-machine guns.) My mother went once and it never occurred to her, veggies need no guard, but Hooch does.

Thank you for a great place to enjoy train lore. I have always wanted a wooden boxcar of my own but settled for trips from Chama Co and Durango Co. I live in Trinidad Co and would love to find a door or two off of an old car. To setup in my backyard as a backdrop for pictures. I do this strictly as a hobby as I am retired and gave time to make things happenAny help in locating a door would be greatly appreciated. Thank s

I tried to post this after registering yesterday, trying again to be sure as I believe the topic is important...

If someone is still looking for a link to some of Tom Beaton's work:

I talked to him last weekend at a show in Chilliwack, BC. He has a folio with his published articles (technical details and drawings) and lots of pics of his work (mostly in other people's hands). I asked if he would like to have it scanned and placed on the net by volunteers. Am not sure if he got the intention but refused, stressing his dislike for computers.

This would be w worthwhile project for the modelling community. If you need me, contact form is on my blog:
right-hand menu just above the internal search button.
